What is sex coaching?
If your internet searching has brought you here, you’ve likely heard of sex coaching, and maybe you’re even considering it for yourself. But what is it? Is it right for you? What even happens in sex coaching? How much does it cost? Well, I’d be delighted to inform you!

Sex coaching is…
As I try to think of the best way to complete the sentence stem “Sex coaching is…”, I hear Mrs. Puff from Spongebob Squarepants screaming in my head, What I learned in boating school is…!? WHAT I LEARNED IN BOATING SCHOOL IS…!? But I digress.
Sex coaching is… varied depending on what you’re looking for.
You might be learning and practicing dirty talk to take your intimacy to the next level. You might be gaining comfort and confidence communicating your sexual desires. You might be exploring kinks and discussing how to do so in a safe manner. You might be problem-solving how to get out of a sexual funk.
Your goals are really what determine the course of sex coaching. Which, speaking of…
Sex coaching is… goal-oriented and action-based.
Whatever goals you’re coming to sex coaching with, you are given concrete steps to take to achieve them. You can even take a sneak peek at the coaching template and calendar template you’d be provided when working with Erodite.
You are coached (go figure!) on how to get where you want to be, and obstacles are troubleshooted. And, at Erodite, your coach is a licensed therapist so they can also help you decide if therapy might be a more helpful direction.
Sex coaching is… educational and skills-building.
Unfortunately, sex education has failed most of us. There’s often so much about sex and our own bodies and desires that we don’t know unless we specifically seek out that information. Sex coaching helps bring that information directly to you.
Sex coaching also acknowledges that sexual skills are exactly that—skills—and skills require practice. Your coach will give you the tools and instructions you need to build those skills, wherever it is that you’re starting from and wherever it is that you’re trying to go.
Sex coaching is… informative and reflective.
You will learn a lot during sex coaching (at least, you will with a good coach) but you will also be encouraged to reflect intrapersonally. When you shed the expectations of the world, what is it that you desire? Where do your goals come from? What would reaching them do for you?
With Erodite, you get the best of both worlds. You’ll learn about external influences on sexuality from a sexuality education professional and you’ll be given reflection prompts from a licensed therapist. If you’re unsure how sex coaching differs from therapy, or which might be a better fit for you, you can read more here.
What does a sex coaching session look like?
Look, I know the last answer you want to read is “it depends”, but truthfully that’s the case. I know that’s not a satisfactory answer though, so allow me to do my best to give you a brief example.
After our consult, we’ll set up our initial session and talk more in-depth about the issue you’re facing. If talking about the issue is uncomfortable, that’s where we’ll start.
You’ll be asked about the history of the issue you’re facing, what solutions you’ve tried, and what factors contribute to the problem. (You might not know, and that’s okay! Your coach is there to help you figure it out.)
Then, based on that conversation, you’re provided with a coaching plan that outlines the steps for you to take to reach your goals. And here is a template of what that would like, if you’re curious!
During subsequent sessions we’ll check in on how you’ve been doing completing the suggested steps. If it’s been difficult, we’ll troubleshoot why that is and brainstorm solutions to these obstacles, updating the coaching plan if necessary.
Coaching lasts as long as you would like it to, as long as it’s a helpful process for you.
The nitty gritty of what sex coaching looks like truly does depend on your goals. If you’d like to learn more and get a clearer idea of what sex coaching might look like for you, schedule a consult here.
Do sex coaches get physical?
While some sex coaches may use “hands on” work, at Erodite you are provided the tools and instruction to explore on your own. There is no sex or touching taking place in the session (which might seem obvious in light of Erodite being a virtual practice) nor is there nudity. If you are considering hiring a sex coach and wondering if the provider is “hands on”, consult their website.
You might be “assigned” physical forms of intimacy as homework depending on many factors, but this would be between you and a partner/partners and would not involve the sex coach.
Despite not being “hands on”, I want to make clear that Erodite is pro-sex work and sex workers’ rights. Sex work has its own benefits and merits, it is simply different than sex coaching.
How much does sex coaching cost?
Well, and I hate to say it, it depends. Prices will range based on the coach, their level of training, where they’re based, and what they offer.
Though not a scientific answer by any means, my experience tells me that $130-$300 for a 60-minute session is average.
You can review Erodite’s services and pricing here. You may notice these prices are lower than other sex coaches. Despite being a highly-qualified sex coach (you can vet my credentials here), I wholeheartedly believe in running a values-based business, which in this case means acknowledging the privileges I’ve been afforded in life and pricing my services accordingly. You can read more about Erodite’s business practices here.
